My fondest memory of Claude is when he was driving Peter Woollven (also gone almost 35 years ago now) and I to Toronto for a field trip along the 401 in winter.
I kept looking at the fuel gauge and fretting about running out of gas. Claude eventually snapped at me and sternly said “Peter, keep quiet, I know exactly how many more miles we can drive before re fueling.”

Two minutes later the car sputtered and we were stranded by the side of the highway.
